A haul of many brands. NIOD, The Ordinary, The Chemistry Brand, ..

HI! I am Alex and I write monster posts!

Many remember my extra detailed The Ordinary review and recommendations. A monster post, where I was in my beginning stages of getting to know The Ordinary as a brand. Here we are, quite a few months later and guess what I am still doing? Repurchasing stuff from Deciem.

tl; dr: I got a bunch of stuff.

Visually appealing, design worthy of stealing, slight peeling, dem properties be healing, know the feeling.

I would mentally divide this haul into two parts. Repurchases and Newbies.

All of The Ordinary thingamajingies are repurchases. You can find Buffet, Lactic acid 10% + HA and Retinoid explanations and tips in my old post.

The newbies however…. You can feel how excited I am through the letters, cant you?

I decided to venture out of just The Ordinary and give a chance to some of other Deciem brands, that offer more complex and more specific targeting capabilities and delivery systems.

To be completely frank, venturing out of my beloved TO regimen gives me jeebies. The products I have carefully chosen for myself have made such an impact to not only how my skincare routine looks but my skin confidence as well. Since March, I dare to go out without makeup. I used to hide my flaws with more makeup instead of addressing my skin issues head on. But, I never knew how, I never had the knowledge, I never took the time to research. Chemistry and physics were always something I was into but cosmetics was never astrophysics and oh boy was I missing out.

Understanding basic components is the key to becoming a skin geek. Knowing how to layer products, the dos and donts of direct acids, antioxidants, humectants, emulsions, retinols, hydrators, oils can be SO very overwhelming. I understand. That is why I will always do my best to word things so a beginner or a steeled expert can understand. Lets jump in!

1. The Chemistry Brand – First thing on the list is an absolute basic. HYALURONIC ACID. More importantly – A BIG TUB OF IT.

This HA concentrate has a base of skin-supporting red algae and tamarind and is used to help retain hydration. A very simple products that can make a big difference in how your skin acts. Imagine that feeling of being excruciatingly thirsty after a game of tennis with the Princ Charles. You were in the sun for two hours and the only thing you want is a liter of water. HA is that external liter of water for your skin.

It has a gel-like consistency and my skin just loves it.

How I use it? I layer it under my moisturiser when needed.

You can find more on how HA works on my old post.

2. The Chemistry Brand – Heel Chemistry

You want those cinderella feet. This provides. This formula contains no acids or urea. Its primary role is to hydrate and penetrate the skin so deep, that it can moisturise even the lower levels of your dermis. Exciting!

How I use it? I put it on my heels. 🙂

3. NIOD – Low – viscosity cleaning ester (LVCE)

Its primary role is to thoroughly cleanse makeup (even any hydrophobic substances – with ease) and control sebum production. The technologies applied in this product make it possible for the following topical treatments to absorb better.

”Not to be mistaken for alcohol or acids, this incredibly emollient and skin-friendly ester takes the approach of using the enemy’s strength to win against the enemy—its structure is nearly identical to a vast array of emollients used in makeup and skincare (the enemy of clean skin), allowing this ester to reconstitute—or breakdown—these formulations solely by being so similar to them. Within seconds of application, with or without water, this flexible ester is able to dissolve even the most complex forms of silicones, oils, pigments and other topical formulations.”

Glycerides, for example, are important esters in biology, being one of the main classes of lipids, and making up the bulk of animal fats and vegetable oils. That is what makes this ester so effective in battling with makeup removal.

I am interested to see how this cleansing ester would perform in removing any heavy-duty physical sunscreens that are notoriously hard to remove from skin.

So far, I am not impressed in how good it did with any makeup removal even though it is an ester. It never does a good job with my mascara and I do not even use a waterproof one. I usually use it as my first step in cleansing my face and I go over with a regular face cleanser to remove the greasy feel. I still somehow end up with black under my eyes. I think i need to give it a bit more time to perhaps grow on me.

”Pore Control helps increase the skin’s ability to retain water while regulating the looks of pores and sebum activity.” The product is not meant to dry out the skin so I would not classify it by being meant for dry or oily skin. I would rather say it is meant for congested skin of any type. Dry skin can be congested but most of the time, congestion appears in oily skin because it is in fact dehydrated. It is also supposed to control shine.

I had great results with the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and I feel like this is its bigger brother.

Containing Ayurvedic plants shikakai and sapindus mukorossi it is produced without purified or synthetic surfactants, sulphates, oils, esters or micellar technologies.

First impressions: This smells like dog food covered in nuts. Fine with me. I would describe it as a liquid paste (yes, creative descriptions) and I have used it as a 2 minute mask so far.  I might try prolonging the time to 15 minutes and see how my skin takes it. Some have experienced great results in the pore minimisation department when using it like that.  It also does not leave the skin feeling dry and tight, which I love.

6. THE ORDINARY – Backups

The rest is just backups I ordered or what I already use on a regular basis. I picked up:

– The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Previously Advanced Retinoid 2%)
– â€śBuffet”

– Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%
– High-Spreadability Fluid Primer
– Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%

Hope you spent some quality time with your close one during the holidays. Happy new year!
