Triple matte! *jumps up and down* Since I wear mostly just matte lipsticks and am a huge MatteAllAndEverything fan, I can’t pass up a chance to try some matte lipsticks, can I? I picked up two of the 8 beautiful shade range of the Essence Matt Matt Matt lipsticks in 02 perfect match and 03 wow effect, second being just a pinker version of the first one.
But firstly, what do they claim?: ”Matt matters! the light, creamy texture of the new lipstick range unites a high colour-dispersion with a matt finish.”
First thing I noticed was that the lipsticks aren’t really fully matte. I would describe the finish more as a ‘suede meets amplified’ than matte but most people prefer that to a completely matte, so if that’s you jam, this is the thing for you. It can be seen they thought of the trends when creating the shades since many of them fall in the brownish-nude range that is very popular at the moment.
The packaging is fairly basic, yet I love the matte outer-casing and the engraved logo on the lipstick itself. Good job! Longevity-wise it’s as a tad longer lasting than any other non drying lipstick. It doesn’t slide as much as a satin, cream, lustre or any other shine finish. I found I could wear it for 3-4 hours before the need for reapplying. The full coverage is achieved when you swipe more than once. One swipe on the lips will get you a sheer, but still mattifying effect without the full harshness of colour. So build, build, build up! The lipstick consistency can be a little bit waxy so if you are used to just lipglosses, you will need a bit of getting used to. However, it’s far more comfortable than any drying liquid lipstick.
I noticed that all the Essence Matt Matt Matt lipsticks have quite a strong berry cupcake scent which are noticeable when you are wearing it so that is also one thing to keep in mind.
02 Perfect match is my favourite out of these two and I believe it’s a perfect nude for my everyday makeup. It takes little to no thought when applying, unlike liquid lipsticks – just swipe these once for natural look, or pack it on for more accentuated lips.
